Number of Awards & Eligibility: Ten awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have passed the Arkansas High School Diploma (GED) test in the calendar year prior to applying.
  3. Must have been a resident of the State of Arkansas for at least the twelve months prior to successfully completing the Arkansas High School Diploma (GED) test.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must enroll in a minimum of six credit hours per semester.
  6. Must be 18 years of age or older or a former member of a high school class which has graduated.
  7. Must be enrolled, or be accepted for admission to, an approved Arkansas postsecondary institution.

Description: This award is available to Arkansas resident high school students who have passed the Arkansas High School Diploma (GED) test and are planning to attend an Arkansas state-supported college or university.

Additional Information: The Second Effort Scholarship was established to recognize the importance of the Arkansas High School Diploma (GED) Program and to encourage those students who successfully pass the Arkansas High School Diploma test to enroll in an Arkansas postsecondary institution.

Award Amount: Up to $1,000 annually, and renewable for up to three additional years (or the equivalent if a student is enrolled part-time), or the completion of the baccalaureate degree, provided the recipient maintains a minimum college grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale each academic year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Students do not apply for this award directly. Eligible students who achieved one of the ten highest scores on the Arkansas High School Diploma test (GED) during the previous calendar year will be notified by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE) to complete a scholarship application. The deadline for eligible Second Effort Scholarship students to return a completed application is June 1.
