Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually, one to an undergraduate student and one to a graduate student.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a college sophomore, junior, or senior, or graduate student in the upcoming academic year.
  4. Must be enrolled full time.
  5. Must be a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
  6. Must be a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).
  7. Must be enrolled in a mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, or related baccalaureate or graduate program.
  8. Must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who are members of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). Students must be studying mechnical engineering or a related field and have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher.

Application requirements for the ASME/SHPE Scholarship are:

  • Official Transcript
  • Essay
  • Recommendation letters (1-2)
Additional Information: Applicants must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited school for the upcoming academic year. Information regarding accreditation status is available online at main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx. The award recipients will be selected on the basis of leadership, scholastic ability, potential contribution to the mechanical engineering profession, and financial need. Volunteer work to benefit others through at least one of the two societies (ASME and SHPE) is highly desirable. All applicants will be notified of the scholarship results between June 15 and July 1. Scholarship money will be sent to scholarship winners by the end of August.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Scholarship awardees from past years will not be selected to receive additional scholarships. Students must apply again each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.
