Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must study mechanical engineering.
  3. Must be enrolled at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) at the time the award is granted.
  4. Must be a current graduate student (master's or Ph.D.).
  5. Must be enrolled full time.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. graduate students enrolled at the Virginia Institute of Technology are eligible for this award. Students must be studying mechanical engineering.

Application requirements for the ASME/Virginia Tech Memorial Scholarship are:

Additional Information: To create an ongoing remembrance of the April 2007 tragedy at Virginia Tech, this endowed memorial scholarship was funded by gifts of all sizes from all parts of ASME, including the ASME Board of Governors, Divisions, Institutes, Sections, ASME members, staff, and friends. Applicants must have established a grade point average in their degree programs to qualify. If applicants have not established a grade point average at the college level, they are not eligible to apply. The award recipient will be selected on the basis of scholastic ability and potential contribution to the mechanical engineering profession. All applicants will be notified of the scholarship results between June 15 and July 1. Scholarship money will be sent to scholarship winners by the end of August.

Award Amount: $4,000 annually, non-renewable. Scholarship awardees from past years will not be selected to receive additional scholarships. Students must apply again each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.
