Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must have already completed an entry-level dental hygiene program.
  4. Must be pursuing additional degree(s) necessary for a career in dental hygiene education.
  5. Must hold an active dental hygiene license and a minimum of a baccalaureate degree if classified as a graduate student.
  6. Must be a full-time student.
  7. Must be a professional or student member of the American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA).

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available to U.S. students who are pursuing additional degree(s) necessary for a career in dental hygiene education and have completed an entry-level dental hygiene program. Applicants must be student or professional members of the American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA).

Application requirements for the Dr. Esther Wilkins Scholarship are:

Additional Information: For all non-merit-based awards (i.e., those without the word "merit" in the name of the award), the student must have a financial need of $1,500 or more and must electronically sign the application attesting to such need. Scholarships are awarded based on how well the applicant demonstrates the goal or achievement of the scholarship for which he/she applies.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the ADHA Institute for Oral Health website. The application must be completed online. Mailed applications will not be accepted. Please note: Each student may only apply for one scholarship offered by the ADHA Institute. The student should submit an application for the scholarship for which he/she is most qualified. As part of the application, the student must prepare a statement describing his/her long-term career goals, his/her intended contribution to the dental hygiene profession, his/her professional interests, and how his/her extracurricular activities and degree enhance the attainment of his/her goals. For this scholarship only, the student must also prepare an essay detailing his/her commitment to pursuing a career in dental hygiene education. In addition to the student application, the student must request completion of faculty evaluation and program director sections. These sections must be completed online by the appropriate school personnel. ADHA Institute staff recommends that the student allow three to four weeks for completion of these sections. All applications must be received electronically by the ADHA Institute no later than the deadline date.
