Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is based on funding and the number of qualified applicants. Last year, three awards were offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a full-time student.
  3. Must be enrolled in a manufacturing engineering or manufacturing engineering technology degree program in the United States.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must be a current college student to apply for this undergraduate award. Student must have at least 30 or more credit hours completed at time of application.
  6. Must reside in and attend an accredited institution in the United States or Canada.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. and international students who are majoring in manufacturing engineering and technology. The applicant must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and have completed a minimum of 30 college credit hours to be eligible.

Application requirements for the E. Wayne Kay Co-op Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Resume
Additional Information: The scholarship review committee and other ad hoc review committees will evaluate applications during March of the award year. Their recommendations for the top candidates will be presented to the SME Education Foundation Board at their annual meeting in May. Each applicant will be notified of the final decision by the end of June.

Award Amount: The minimum award amount is $1,000, but the student may receive a higher amount if more funding is available. This award is non-renewable. The scholarship can be used only as a credit toward tuition, fees or books.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.
