Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards granted varies.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be an active member of Phi Theta Kappa.
  3. Must have a 3.5 grade point average or higher on all college-level coursework completed in the last five years.
  4. Must have at least 30 credit hours at a community college in the last five years and plan to transfer to a four-year college in. The student must intend to have 53 or more semester college-level credits (or 79.5 quarter credits) at a community college by August. At the time of transfer to a four-year college, he/she must be admitted with a junior-level status.
  5. Must be a part-time or full-time student.

Description: This award is for U.S. and international undergraduate students who will be transfering to a four-year college in the current academic year. Students must be active members of Phi Theta Kappa.

Additional Information: The purpose of this merit-based program is to enhance Phi Theta Kappa members' attainment of baccalaureate degrees. The Guistwhite Scholarship serves to recognize Phi Theta Kappa members who excel academically, participate in Phi Theta Kappa programs, and take leadership roles on their campuses or within their communities.

Award Amount: $5,000 over two years (or until the full scholarship amount has been disbursed), non-renewable.Twenty Guistwhite Scholars will each receive $5,000 toward the completion of a baccalaureate degree. Full-time students will receive four payments of $1,250 per semester. Part-time students enrolled 9-11 credit hours will receive $925 per semester, and students enrolled 6-8 credit hours will receive $625 per semester. Students will receive these amounts until the total amount of the scholarship has been disbursed. Certain criteria will be required in order to maintain the scholarship (e.g. 3.0 GPA, no incomplete coursework, minimum enrollment of 6 credit hours, etc.)  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online at the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) website. Current PTK members must log in with their member ID number to access the application. Non-PTK members and advisers can log in as a guest to view the application (note: only PTK members can receive this scholarship). Each student must submit the completed application, three letters of recommendation, the 'College Registrar's Certification Form', and a copy of his/her official college transcript. Each student must submit the application online and include all additional documentation, in one packet by U.S. postal mail. Due to the large quantity of applications received, application materials should be sent in a package that can be tracked. Application packets must be received by 5 p.m. CST on the deadline date.
