Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, all eligible students will be considered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be an incoming first time freshmen.
  3. Must be male.
  4. Must attend Hampden-Sydney College, VA.
  5. Must be ranked in the top 15 percent of the high school class.
  6. Must have an SAT score (reading/math) of 1300 or higher.
  7. Must have a grade point average of 3.8 or higher.

Description: This award is available to U.S. high school seniors who are planning to attend Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. The student must be ranked in the top 15 percent of his high school class, an SAT score (reading/math) of 1300 or higher, and a grade point average of 3.8 or higher.

Additional Information: Hampden-Sydney College offers a variety of scholarships to incoming students. Selection is determined by the Admissions Committee based on exceptional academic, leadership, and personal qualifications. Eligible students will be given the award which carries the highest recognition. The Patrick Henry Scholarships was created to honor the great American patriot who served on Hampden-Sydney's first Board of Trustees and was five times Governor of Virginia. Students must demonstrate leadership by participating in numerous activities both in their school and in their community. Their participation must have led to positions of responsibility.

Award Amount: Up to $21,000 annually, renewable for three additional years providing the student continues to meet the scholarship requirements.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $84,000.

Additional information can be found on the Hampden-Sydney College (HSC) website. To apply, students must apply for admission to Hampden-Sydney College. No separate scholarship application is required. In addition to a complete application, students must also submit high school transcripts, an essay, a teacher reference, and SAT or ACT test scores. For scholarship consideration, students must apply for admission for next fall by March 1.
