In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of Kent County, Michigan.
  2. Must be an undergraduate student at the time of application.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must have a pilot's license and pursue a major that will lead to a career in aviation.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher.

Additional Information: The Grand Rapids Community Foundation awards hundreds of scholarships annually, primarily to Kent County students bound for or in college, or those pursuing a technical career. Applications and information are available at the Grand Rapids Community Foundation website at the address provided. In addition to the online application form, an interested student must submit transcripts (official or unofficial), an essay describing his/her personal and professional aspirations, and documentation such as the FAFSA Student Aid report that proves financial need. Any student applying for the Joshua Esch Mitchell Aviation Scholarship must also submit a copy of his/her pilot's certificate. All applications must be submitted online by the deadline date.
