Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. *Please note: The number of recipients for this program varies according to the number of students meeting the eligibility requirements in any given year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must major in horticulture or a related field.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or master's program at time of application.
  5. Must reside in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Applicants must be sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students majoring in horticulture or a related field with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Students must reside in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia.

Application requirements for the Katharine M. Grosscup Scholarship are:

  • Official Transcript
  • Interview (if selected as a finalist)
Additional Information: A personal interview in Cleveland, OH is required of all finalists. The Garden Club of America policy conforms with and strongly supports applicable federal and state laws that forbid discrimination on the basis of race, sex, disability, religion, age, national origin or sexual orientation with regard to the application for any of the scholarships The Garden Club of America sponsors.

Award Amount: Up to $3,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $31,500.

Applications are available on the Garden Club of America (GCA) website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: a personal statement describing his/her career goals and how his/her proposed course of study will support him/her; two letters of recommendation, one each from his/her department adviser and/or professor and a current or former employer; and an official college transcript. All application materials should be sent electronically. If the references desire to send recommendations directly to the GCA, they can mail or email the letter to the address provided.
