Number of Awards & Eligibility: 41 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
  3. Must be a full-time student currently enrolled in a college or university.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must study agriculture education, horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, botany, biology, plant pathology/science, forestry, agronomy, environmental concerns, economics, environmental conservation, city planning, wildlife science, habitat or forest/systems ecology, land management or another related subject.
  6. Must be a college junior, senior, or graduate student pursuing a master's degree at time of application. Sophomores may make applications for their junior year. Doctoral students are not eligible.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: College juniors or older students who are studying a subject related to plant science and have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher may apply for this award. College sophomores may apply for their junior year. Students must be currently enrolled full time in a postsecondary institution.

Application requirements for the NGC, Inc. Scholarship Program are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
Additional Information: All applications received by a state garden club chairman will be judged by that chairman and committee in order to choose one winning application. States having fewer than 10,000 members may submit one application. States having 10,000 or more members may submit two applications for consideration by the NGC Scholarship Committee. In January, the NGC Scholarship Chairman will notify scholarship chairmen of the states that are eligible to submit two applications. The following scale of point will be used for the evaluation of each application: academic record (40 percent), the applicant's letter (30 percent), listing of honors/extracurricular activities/work experience (10 percent), financial need (15 percent), and recommendations (5 percent).

Award Amount: $4,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $164,000.
