Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies per semester.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Carroll County, Madison County, or Washington County in Arkansas.
  3. Must be the head of the household.
  4. Must be single.
  5. Must have one or more children.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be a low-income person living at or near the poverty level.
  8. Must be a high school graduate or the equivalent to apply for this undergraduate award.
  9. Must be pursuing a vocational-oriented course of study to ensure a better standard of living for his/her family.
  10. Must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

Additional Information: The purpose of the Northwest Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund is to provide supplemental financial assistance to those single parents who are pursuing a course of instruction that will improve their income-earning potential. Students must have received a Pell Grant or be in the process of obtaining one. To apply for a Pell Grant, the student must file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. After the issue of funds, each scholarship recipient will be asked to supply a general end-of-semester accounting of how he/she used this financial assistance. *For purposes of the SPSFNWA Program, “single parent” is defined as: a family with children under the age of 18 and/or a severely disabled adult child over 18, headed by a parent who is widowed or divorced and not remarried, or by a parent who has never married and is caring for the children without assistance of another parenting partner in the home.

Award Amount: $1,200 a semester with multiple deadlines throughout the year  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,800.

Applications are available on the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) website by clicking on the 'How to Apply' link, and then clicking the link for Carroll County, Madison County, or Washington County. Deadline dates are as follows: Fall: April 15 - June 15 Summer: January 15 - March 15 Spring: August 15 - October 15 In addition to a completed application, the student must also submit the following: verification of enrollment or acceptance to a college or university; a transcript of all college work, high school work, or GED scores; three letters of recommendation (first-time recipients only); a statement of his/her goals; and an income/expense statement. The application form should be completed online and all attachments should be mailed to the address provided.
