Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to Forty-five awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Massachusetts for one or more years prior to the opening of the academic year.
  3. Must have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.75 or higher.
  4. Must plan to attend one of the nine Massachusetts state colleges.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  6. Must have an SAT score of 1200 or higher or an ACT score of 27 or higher.
  7. Must be a graduating high school senior or older and be enrolled at an eligible institution within three years of high school graduation.

Description: This award is available to Massachusetts high school students who are planning to attend one of the nine state colleges in Massachusetts. The student must be enrolled within three years after high school graduation and have a GPA of 3.75 or higher and a SAT score of at least 1200 (or the ACT equivalent).

Additional Information: The Paul Tsongas Scholarship Program seeks to recognize achievement and reward Massachusetts students who have graduated from high school within three years with a grade point average (G.P.A.) of 3.75 and highly competitive Scholastic Aptitude Test (S.A.T.) scores (or the American College Testing [A.C.T.] equivalent) and who also meet the one year residency requirement for tuition classification at the State Colleges. Students who meet the above residency requirement for tuition classification and who have pursued other endeavors for a minimum of five years are eligible to apply to a State College for the Paul Tsongas Scholarship Program under the exceptional life experience category set forth in the Guidelines. Eligible students receive a waiver of tuition and mandatory fees at a Massachusetts State College.

Award Amount: Award is up to the cost of tuition and mandatory fees at the eligible Massachusetts state colleges. Awards are renewable for up to three additional years. Students must maintain a grade point average of 3.3 or higher to remain eligible.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $32,000.
