Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of Mobile, AL.
  2. Must be enrolled full time.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  5. Must be majoring in welding engineering.
  6. Must be an undergraduate student at the time of application.
  7. Must have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

Description: This scholarship is available for full-time undergraduate students who reside in Mobile, Alabama. Applicants must be majoring in a welding-engineering program, and must have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

Additional Information: The award is sponsored by Ronald C. Pierce, Chairman, AWS Foundation, AWS Past President, and Joyce Pierce, to a student who is pursuing a degree in welding-related engineering.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, distributed among the three recipients based on academic achievement and financial need.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,666.

Applications are available online on the American Welding Society (AWS) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must also submit the following: two letters of reference with one letter of reference indicating previous hands-on welding experience; a personal statement; original official transcript(s) sent directly from the college or university (if applying for more than one scholarship, only one transcript must be an original official transcript); verification of enrollment; an essay as specified on the application; and a statement of unmet financial need. Students must also file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
