Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually based on the number of qualified applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident.
  3. Must be a full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate student.
  4. Must be a South Carolina resident at the time of high school graduation and at the time of college enrollment.
  5. Must have a cumulative grade point ratio of 3.0 or higher based on the Uniform Grading Scale at time of high school graduation.
  6. Must meet one of the following criteria: a score of 1100 or higher on the SAT (critical reading and math sections only) or the equivalent score of 24 or higher on the ACT OR rank in the top 30 percent of his/her graduating class. SAT/ACT scores will be accepted through the June national test administration of the high school graduation year. SAT scores may be combined from different test sittings; the ACT composite score must be from one test sitting. Students cannot use the SAT Writing subsection score to meet the minimum score requirement.
  7. Must attend an eligible four-year South Carolina institution.
  8. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

Description: This scholarship is available for South Carolina high school seniors who plan to attend an eligible South Carolina four-year institution. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and a score of 1100 or higher on the SAT (or the equivalent score of 24 or higher on the ACT) or rank in the top 30 percent of their graduating class.

Additional Information: The Legislative Incentive for Future Excellence (LIFE) Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship program administered by the financial aid office at each eligible public and independent institution in South Carolina. The purpose of the scholarship is to increase access to higher education, improve employability of South Carolina students, provide incentives for students to be better prepared for college, and encourage students to graduate from college on time. *Please note: An eligible student cannot be a S.C. HOPE Scholarship, Palmetto Fellows Scholarship or Lottery Tuition Assistance recipient.

Award Amount: Up to $5,000 annually, renewable until the completion of degree provided students completes 30 credit hours each academic year and maintains a grade point average a 3.0 or higher.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $20,000.
