Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a full-time student.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must have a strong desire to pursue a career in environmental control as it relates to the pulp, paper and allied industries.
  5. Must be a college sophomore or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.

Description: This scholarship is available for international and U.S. college sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students who have a strong desire to pursue a career in environmental control as it relates to the pulp, paper and allied industries. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: The Environmental Working Group focuses on the interrelationship of pulp and paper and related industries operations and the environment with emphasis on air and water resources and solid waste disposal. The purpose of this program is to actively promote the pursuit of and set forth a program for acknowledgement of outstanding candidates in the area of environmental control as it relates to the pulp, paper, and allied industries. Students may be required to interview with a designate of the Environmental Division Scholarship Committee. Recipients must attend an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering & Technology, Inc.)-accredited or equivalent college. Note: The TAPPI Environmental Working Group Scholarship Committee has the authority to interpret the scholarship requirements as they see fit and may make exceptions on a case-by-case basis depending on the circumstances surrounding the submittal.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available online on the Technical Association for the Pulp, Paper, and Converting Industry (TAPPI) website under the 'Honors' tab. A complete application package must include the following: a completed 'Scholarship Checklist'; a completed 'General Information Form' (only one form needs to be submitted to apply for multiple scholarships); an official transcript; letters of recommendation from faculty members as required by each particular division's scholarship; and additional letters of recommendation from persons (other than relatives) who are familiar with the applicant's character, interests in the industries served by TAPPI in accordance with each particular division's scholarship, school activities, leadership roles, and educational accomplishments. For this scholarship, the student must also submit a current resume. The application and all additional materials must be sent to TAPPI either by mail or email and be received by the deadline date. If applying by mail, the student's school must send the transcript directly to TAPPI. If applying by email, all additional documents may be scanned and emailed.
