Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually according to the number of students meeting the eligibility requirements in any given year. In 2015, one fellowship was awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international students.
  2. Must be a Norwegian citizen.
  3. Must plan to attend graduate school, either to obtain a degree or for professional development.
  4. Must plan to attend the University of Minnesota.

Description: This award is available for Norwegian citizens who are admitted to the University of Minnesota Graduate School. Torske Klubben is interested in supporting future leaders.

Additional Information: The Torske Klubben, founded in 1933, is a Minneapolis luncheon club of men of Norwegian heritage who are deeply interested in Norway and Norwegian-American history and relationships. The organization funds University of Minnesota graduate fellowships for Norwegian citizens, as well as awards for Minnesota residents who have an interest in or connection with Norway and/or its culture. The overarching goal of the fellowship program is supporting future leaders.

Award Amount: The fellowship includes an annual academic stipend of $15,000, plus full non-resident tuition for up to 14 credits per semester. Information on tuition rates is available online.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $26,840.

Applications are available on the University of Minnesota (UM) Graduate School Fellowship Office website. In addition to the completed fellowship application, each student must submit the following supporting documents: a one-page plan of study/research for the upcoming academic year; a personal biography that is no more than two pages in length addressing the topics listed on the application; and two letters of recommendation (signed and on letterhead) from professionals acquainted with his/her academic work and leadership skills. Letters of recommendation must be sent directly to the graduate school fellowship office. All application materials must be completed in English, including recommendation letters. Completed applications and supporting materials must be submitted to the fellowship office, by email or mail, by the deadline date. Please note: Applicants for this fellowship must be admitted to the UM Graduate School. Students may apply to pursue a degree or apply for Professional Development Coursework (PDC).
