In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must plan to enroll as a full-time student.
  3. Must be a first-time applicant to the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  5. Must be a high school senior who is planning to enroll as a first-time freshman or older student who is planning to transfer to the University of Bridgeport.

Description: Interantional students who are first-time applicants to the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are eligible for this award. Students must have a TOEFL score of 540 or higher on the paper-based test, 207 or higher on the computer-based test, or 76 or higher on the Internet-based test.

Additional Information: Scholarships are available for first-time applicants entering in the fall or spring semester who demonstrate outstanding scholastic achievement and proficiency in English. Please note: In order to be eligible for this award, the student must have a TOEFL score of 540 or higher on the paper-based test, 207 or higher on the computer-based test, or 76 or higher on the Internet-based test. Grade point average will be used as an academic requirement for this award. The grade point average is calculated at the University of Bridgeport by converting the applicant's grades, marks, examination results, etc. to an American grading equivalent with accepted practices used by universities in the United States. Specific scholarship grade point average requirements are subject to change based on the sole discretion of the admissions committee. The admissions committee reserves the right to consider additional variables, such as a student's extracurricular involvement, to determine whether a student meets the academic requirement. Recipients will be notified by mail. Due to the large applicant pool, the university regrets that it cannot respond to the many emails, faxes, or phone calls regarding the scholarship.

Award Amount: $11,000 annually, renewable for three years if the student maintains satisfactory academic achievement with the university and enrolls full time. Award amounts are based on academic excellence and English proficiency.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $44,000.

There is not a separate scholarship application for this award. All international students who apply for admission to the University of Bridgeport are automatically considered. Applications for admission are available online from the University of Bridgeport website. There are two deadlines per year by which admissions applications must be received for scholarship consideration: July 15 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit the following: a non-refundable application fee of $35; official copies of original high school records (a transfer applicant should also submit official copies of all postsecondary records); a 'Financial Statement for International Students Form' accompanied by an original bank statement from his/her sponsor showing adequate funds; TOEFL (paper-, computer-, or Internet-based) or SAT I verbal scores; and a clear copy of his/her passport information page. Further details on required supplemental materials are available at www.bridgeport.edu/pages/3666.asp; the student is highly encouraged to review these guidelines before submitting his/her admissions application. The admissions application may be submitted online or by postal mail (preferred). All supplemental materials must be submitted by postal mail in one envelope. The student is encouraged to use a special courier service such as FedEx, DHL, or UPS to submit his/her application.
