In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a graduating high school senior.
  4. Must plan to attend the University of Puget Sound.
  5. Must be a National Merit Finalist.
  6. Must attend a university in Washington state.

Application requirements for the University of Puget Sound National Merit Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • $50 app. fee
  • ACT/SAT scores
  • School reports
  • Official Transcript
  • Essay
  • Recommendation letters (2)
Additional Information: This scholarship is awarded to National Merit Finalists in addition to other academic scholarships they may receive.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $2,000 annually, renewable for up to three years pending full-time enrollment. The award amount is dependent on financial need.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,000.

Applications for admission are available online from the University of Puget Sound website. There is not a separate application for this award. Each student will be considered upon admission. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit a $50 application fee, ACT/SAT scores, a personal essay of 250 or more words, two teacher evaluation forms, a mid-year school report, secondary school report, and a final report. A prospective student who submits his/her admission application by Feb. 1 is given priority consideration for these scholarships. The student must list the University of Puget Sound as his/her first choice college with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation by March 1.
