Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a registered, active member of a Boy Scout Troop, Venturing Crew or Sea Scout Ship.
  2. Must be the recipient of the Eagle Scout Award, Venture Silver Award or Quartermaster Award.
  3. Must be between 15 and 18 years of age.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must have demonstrated exemplary citizenship in school, scouting and community.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for active members of a Boy Scout Troop, Venturing Crew, or Sea Scout Ship who have received the Eagle Scout Award, Venture Silver Award, or Quartermaster Award. Additional Information: To be eligible for the award, the candidate must: Be a registered, active member of a Boy Scout Troop, Venturing Crew or Sea Scout Ship; Be the recipient of the Eagle Scout Award, Venture Silver Award or Quartermaster Award; Have demonstrated exemplary citizenship in school, Scouting and community; Have reached his or her 15th birthday and be enrolled in high school at the time of selection. Applicants still in high school who reach their 18th birthday during the nomination year remain eligible if otherwise qualified.

Award Amount: $5,000 for the first place winner; $3,000 for the second place winner; $1,000 for the third place winner. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

The application form can be found on the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) website. Along with the application form, applicants must submit the following: Photograph of scout in complete uniform; High school participation record; Scouting record; Community service record; five letters of recommendation (one each from a representative of the school, community and a Scout leader, as well as two additional letters from members of the local community who have special knowledge of the candidate’s abilities and/or accomplishments). All materials must be submitted to the scout's local post by the deadline date.
