Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately seven scholarships awarded this year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a dependent child, grandchild, or spouse of a blinded veteran to include Active Duty blinded service members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
  2. Must be the spouse or relative of a veteran who has suffered significant vision loss as a result of service in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Application requirements for the Blinded Veterans Scholarship are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript.
Additional Information: The Blind Veterans Association (BVA) is a national organization of blinded veterans helping blinded veterans. To be eligible for this scholarship, a dependent child, grandchild, or spouse of a blinded veteran to include Active Duty blinded service members of the U.S. Armed Forces. The veteran need not be a member of the Blinded Veterans Association. Must be either be Central visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye with corrective glasses. Have been accepted for admission, or be attending, an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited institution of higher education or business, secretarial or vocational training, personnel on academic probation are ineligible.

Award Amount: The grant value is up to $2,000. It is payable directly to the school, to include tuition, books and other academic fees. Awards is not renewable, but recipients can re-apply and receive the award up to four times.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.
