Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately thirty awards arwere issued in the prior academic year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be married to an active duty or retired service member.
  2. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.

Description: In 1969, National Military Family Association was founded by a handful of military wives. Their wanted to make sure their widowed friends were properly taken care of. Two years later, the Survivor Benefit Plan became law, and the Association has been hard at work ever since. A small, but determined, group of spouses around a kitchen table has expanded into a strong force of military families representing all ranks and Services. Eligibility for the scholarship program extends to spouses of all 7 Uniformed Services which are: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Navy, and Public Health Service. Scholarships are NOT based on merit, GPA, need, rank, degree level, full/part-time status, career field, etc. NMFA spouse scholarships are one-time/year awards averaging between $500 – $1,000. The amount can depend on their donors and your educational or professional need. In addition to college courses towards any level degree or certificate, scholarship funds may be used for professional expenses such as licensure/certification (or renewal), CEU’s, professional examinations and other related expenses such as fingerprinting and background check fees.

  • Marriage license or certificate and a military verification document.

Award Amount: NMFA spouse scholarships are one-time/year awards averaging between $500 – $1,000, Funds may be used for tuition, course or lab fees, program costs, program fees or exam costs/fees. Awards are not renewable, but applicants can re-apply.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applicants submit electronically form, completed applications are reviewed and scored by a team of volunteers who see ONLY your short answer and essay responses. After you submit your scholarship application you will be directed to fill out the Required Forms Application. This is required to be considered for a scholarship award. The Required Forms Application includes an agreement form, a funding questionnaire and asks for additional documentation to verify that you are a military spouse. The additional documentation includes your marriage license or certificate and a military verification document; for an example an LES or DD214. There is a rolling application so the application will technically be open year round. But they will close the applications each year on September 30. The following year's application will open October 1. You must submit electronically.
