In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a graduate student at the time of application.
  2. Must be a minority student.
  3. Must plan to pursue a career related to law libraries.
  4. Must major in law or legal resource management.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  6. This award is for U.S. students.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Scholarships and fellowships applicants must be enrolled in an ALA accredited library graduate school program; or law school. Applicants must be members of a recognized minority group (as defined by current U.S. guidelines) with an intention to pursue a career in law librarianship.

Application requirements for the George A. Strait Minority Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The endowed scholarships and fellowships honors the memory of longtime AALL member, and distinguished law librarian, George A. Strait. The endowment was established by Thomson Reuters in partnership with AALL. Scholarship recipients will receive a lump-sum award, based on available funds and the number of awardees for a given year. In the George A. Strait Fellows Program, each fellow will receive: • A paid fellowship in a law library. The fellowship stipend will be awarded directly to the recipient in two installments. The first installment would be at the commencement of the fellowship and the second would be at its’ conclusion. • A mentor assigned by the host institution during the fellowship • AALL membership for one year • Registration paid for AALL Annual Conference that year

Award Amount: The amount of each award varies depending on the availability of funding, as well as the applicant's unmet financial need.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications and information are available at the American Association of Law Libraries website. In addition to a completed application form, students must submit the following items: a letter from an admissions officer confirming enrollment; three letters of recommendation; one personal statement describing the student's interest in working with law libraries; a personal statement describing the student's financial needs; an official transcript; and a recently updated resume. All applications and supporting documents must be received by the deadline date.
