Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a minority student (defined for purposes of this scholarship as black or Hispanic).
  3. Must intend to pursue or be pursuing a course of study that would enable the student, upon graduation, to teach in an accredited school in Indiana.
  4. Must be an Indiana resident.
  5. Must attend an Indiana college or university.
  6. Must be a full-time student.
  7. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  8. Must be a high school senior or currently enrolled undergraduate student.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available to Indiana undergraduate students who are minority (black or Hispanic) and attending an Indiana college or university. The student must intend to pursue or be pursuing a course of study that would enable the student, upon graduation, to teach in an accredited school in Indiana.

Additional Information: Applicants must not be in default on a federal student loan or in overpayment status on a federal student grant. Applicants must also meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as determined by the institution that the student is attending. Recipients must agree in writing to apply for a teaching position in an accredited school in Indiana following that student's certification as a teacher and, if hired, to teach for at least three years.

Award Amount: Award amounts are determined by the student's college. The student should contact his/her college's financial aid office for additional details.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications are available online at the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI) website. Students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to filing the scholarship application. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. It takes five to seven business days from filing for the FAFSA data to be available in the state's system. Therefore, the FAFSA must be filed in time for the student to meet the application deadline. After filing and processing of the FAFSA, the student must complete and submit the online application by the deadline date.
