Still considered a large minority group in the United States, African-American students pursuing higher education can find abundant scholarship opportunities to help them achieve their dreams. Some of the scholarships in this category require students to be first-generation minority students, other simply require that students demonstrate financial need. Regardless of the specific requirements, African-American students are still underrepresented at many colleges and universities. APSA Minority Fellows Program

This award is available for African American, Asian Pacific American, Latino, and Native American U.S. citizens who are enrolled or planning to enroll in a Ph.D. program for political science.

William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fellowship for Minority Students

Minority undergraduate and graduate students who have a background in the social sciences and humanities are eligible to apply for this fellowship. Recipients of the scholarship must intern for 12 to 15 weeks at the Aspen Institute's Washington, D.C. office.

Clemson University Diversity Scholarships

This scholarship is available for current high school seniors and undergraduate students who are applying to admission at Clemson University in South Carolina. To be considered for a Diversity Scholarship, applicants must add to the ethnic, cultural, geographic, or intellectual diversity of the campus.

Missouri State University Diversity in Education Scholarship

This scholarship is open to U.S. students who plan to enter Missouri State University as freshmen and pursue a major leading to a bachelor's degree in education or music education. Students must rank in the top 50 percent of their class or have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and must have demonstrated leadership in multicultural school or community activities or organizations.

Missouri State University Inclusive Excellence Leadership Scholarship & Recognition Award

This scholarship is open to U.S. students who plan to enroll at Missouri State University as incoming freshmen. Students must: rank in the top 50 percent of their class or have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher; and have demonstrated leadership in multicultural school or community activities or organizations. Students with disabilities and/or historically underrepresented populations are encouraged to apply.

This award is available for minority students who are currently attending FSU or USF. Applicants must be enrolled as a graduate student in a program of library science.

This scholarship is available for U.S. high school seniors and undergraduate students who are planning to attend Colby College. Students must demonstrate scholastic strength and leadership potential and must be African American, Latino/Latina, Asian American, or Native American.

This award is available to women studying geological science at the graduate level. Applicants must have at least one full year of study remaining and must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

CGSM Fellowship for Talented Minorities

Students with a bachelor's degree who are planning to pursue a graduate degree full time at one of the Consortium-member schools are eligible for this award. Students must be African-American, Hispanic-American or Native-American and be planning to pursue a managerial career in business, government or non-profit organizations.

High school seniors who are African-Americans planning to enroll as full-time freshmen in college are eligible for this award. Applicants should demonstrate academic achievement, exhibit leadership ability, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need.

This fellowship is available to U.S. women of any age who are pursuing a master's degree in selected areas of study.
