Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards may vary. It is anticipated that one to eight awards will be given this year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have been classified as a Florida resident for tuition purposes for at least one year preceding the award of aid (per Florida Statute 1009.21).
  2. Must be classified as a minority student.
  3. Must have earned an A.A. or A.S. degree from an accredited community college between January and August of the application year.
  4. Must have been accepted as a degree-seeking junior student at Florida International University.
  5. This award is for U.S students.
  6. Must be a U.S citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  7. Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S students who are residents of Florida and plan to attend FIU. The applicant must be a minority student who has completed an A.A. or A.S. degree from an accredited Florida community college.

Additional Information: The Minority Community College Transfer Scholarship is a competitive award granted to qualified minority students, at Florida International University, who are Florida residents on the basis of financial need, academic merit, or both. All students must meet the following criteria: have fulfilled College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) requirements; and have met the eligibility requirements of Section 240.404, Florida Statutes, for award of state financial aid.

Award Amount: $1,600 annually ($800 per semester, fall/spring or both), not automatically renewable. Recipients must reapply annually and are required to: attend orientation in August of the award year; and maintain a 2.0 grade point average if a need-based recipient, or maintain a 3.0 grade point average if a merit-based recipient.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,600.

Applications are available online at the Florida International University (FIU) website. To apply, the student must complete the application and include the following materials: a one-page, double-spaced personal statement expressing his/her career objectives, achievements, and activities; a letter of acceptance; a current official transcript from his/her community college indicating degree conferred (before award is disbursed); and three letters of recommendation from college professors or advisors addressing his/her academic success and potential. The student must also complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) if he/she wishes for financial need to be considered in making an award. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The completed application and all required materials must be submitted online on or before the deadline date.
