Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be in enrolled in a baccalaureate hospitality management major.
  3. Must be a minority student (African-American, Hispanic, Native American/Alaskan, or Asian/Pacific Islander).
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must be of at least junior standing in the upcoming fall semester.
  6. Must be enrolled in 12 or more credit hours for the upcoming fall and spring semesters (or fall semester only if graduating in December).

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. undergraduate students who will be juniors or seniors in the upcoming fall semester and are currently enrolled in a hospitality management program are eligible for this award. Students must be a minority (African-American, Hispanic, Native American/Alaskan, or Asian/Pacific Islander).

Additional Information: In 1988, Hyatt established this fund to provide financial aid to minority students pursuing a degree in hotel management. Students are evaluated based on academics, related work experience, extracurricular activities, financial need, honors, and personal attributes.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable. Recipients will also receive a plaque.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

All students must apply via the AH&LEF online application. The student need only complete one application to apply for all scholarships for which he/she is eligible. As part of the online application, the student must provide the following supporting materials: an essay of 500 words or less describing his/her personal background; financial information, to include anticipated expenses for the upcoming academic year, financial data from his/her most recent tax return, and financials to date; and his/her most recent college, high school, or GED transcript that includes a cumulative grade point average based upon a 4.0 scale (strongly advised to upload transcript to application). Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on the deadline date.
