Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 12 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program.
  2. Must be a minority student.
  3. Must be a resident of Georgia.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must be attending a college or university in Georgia.
  6. Must be enrolled at or accepted to Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Medical College of Georgia (formerly and also known as Augusta State College), and the University of Georgia.
  7. This award is for U.S. students.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for minority students who are enrolled in a Ph.D. program at one of the following universities: Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Medical College of Georgia, and the University of Georgia. Applicants must demonstrate high academic achievement, intent to pursue a career in academia, and must be residents of Georgia.

Application requirements for the SREB Doctoral Scholarship for Georgia Residents are:

Additional Information: The State Doctoral Scholars Program seeks to education more minority Ph.D students who desire careers as faculty on college campuses. The program provides multiple layers of support for selected students, including: financial assistance, academic/research funding, career counseling and job postings, scholar counseling and advocacy, a scholar directory for networking and recruiting, invitation to the annual Institute on Teaching and Mentoring, and continued early career support.

Award Amount: Selected students will receive a $20,000 stipend, as well as a full tuition waiver if attending a partner institution.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $75,000.

Applications and information about this award are available on the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) at the address provided. In addition to the completed application form, students must submit the following items: a letter of interest that include's the applicant's teaching and career goals; three letters of recommendation; transcripts for all educational institutions attended; evidence of acceptance to a Ph.D. program; and proof of state residency and citizenship. Participating states and universities are listed at the SREB website, and some may require additional application procedures. Students who are attending universities that are not current participants may also be eligible to apply with the assistance of his/her graduate advisor and faculty. All applications and supporting documents must be received by the deadline date. Late and incomplete applications will not be considered.
