Millions of Scholarships, personalized results
If you identify as Hispanic or Latino, there are a wide range of scholarships. Scholarships for Latinos often help two distinct groups of students pay for college.
One group is for Hispanics who speak Spanish or come from Spanish speaking countries. And another are Latinos whose heritage is from a country in Latin America.
Of these, some scholarships are for Latinos studying certain fields. STEM, for example, business, law or education. There are also specific awards only for Latino women or DACA recipients.
Other scholarship programs may be open to all Latinos who qualify. But there may be extra criteria to meet apart from being a Latino or Hispanic student.
A few common criteria include a GPA range as well as financial need measured on the FAFSA. You may also need to show you are a current student, enrolled in an accredited college.
Scholarship providers might also look at your awards, outside activities and community service. So, if you volunteer in the Latino community it may help your application stand out.
Scholarships for Latinos are important to cover expensive cost of tuition and fees at college. Many scholarship programs want Latino students to succeed and thrive in their studies and future careers. If you are first generation college student or immigrant to the U.S., then you may benefit from this type of financial aid. It could help you achieve your dreams while making college more affordable.
According to the U.S. Census, there is an uptick in the number of Hispanic students attending college. In fact, they report, college enrollment of Hispanics went up by 1.7 million from 2006 to 2016. This is three times more Hispanic students in college than in 1996.
Despite this trend, Hispanics trail other groups in getting a bachelor’s degree. Lack of money for college, notes the Pew Research Center, is a main barrier. As a scholarship is not a loan, it can be a useful form of financial aid and an incentive to continue your education.
