Native Americans may be one of the least represented minorities in U.S. public schools, comprising less than one percent of students. The drop-out rate among American Indians and Alaskan natives is high and rising; many colleges and organizations, such as the American Indian College Fund, offer scholarships for college in hopes to help with the cost of tuition and inspire more Native American students to continue their education. Many of these Native American scholarships are based on a student’s heritage, family background, residency status, tribe affiliation, and many other characteristics. If you know that your grandparents or parents are a part of a specific American Indian tribe, there very well may be free college dollars available to you in the form of Native American scholarships.

AISES Certified Federal Surveyors Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to U.S. students who are registered/licensed land surveyors in a least one state, territory, or the District of Columbia; or land surveyors in training, that have passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Surveying examination. Dr. Gertrude Dunsworth Scholarship

The Dr. Gertrude Dunsworth Scholarship is available for first-time students at the Southern California University of Health Sciences. Applicants must be of Native America, African American or Latin American descent, and must have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

This award is available for U.S students who are planning to attend the University of Iowa as first-year students. Students must contribute to a diverse learning environment at the University of Iowa. Awards are based on academic achievement.

Montgomery Summer Research Diversity Fellowship

This award is available for U.S. students who are currently enrolled as college sophomores or juniors and will add diversity to the field of law and social science (e.g., ethnic minority, disabled, LGBTQ, etc.). To be eligible, the applicant must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and be working toward a degree in the social sciences or humanities.

This scholarship is available for Illinois resident undergraduate and graduate students who are African American/Black, Hispanic American, Asian American or Native American origin and planning to become preschool, elementary or secondary school teachers. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
