Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  3. Must be a full-time undergraduate student at an accredited four-year college or university.
  4. Must be a member of one of the following minority groups: African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Alaskan Native, Asian, or Pacific Islander.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  6. Preference is given to those majoring or minoring in public relations. A student attending a school that does not offer a public relations degree or program must be enrolled in a communications degree program, such as journalism or mass communications.
  7. Must have attained junior status or higher by the and have a minimum of one full term remaining by the start of the fall term following application.

Description: This award is offered to U.S. college juniors or seniors who are of African-American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Native American, Alaskan Native, or Pacific Islander ancestry. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and it is preferred that they major or minor in public relations (or are in a communications degree program if a public relations program is not offered at their school).

Additional Information: Please note: Membership in the PRSSA is preferred, but is not a requirement for eligibility. While it is not mandatory, the award recipient is strongly encouraged to attend the PRSSA and PRSA national conferences to promote the scholarship program, meet PRSA officials, and network with members of the Multicultural Communications Section. Previous award winners are not eligible to apply.

Award Amount: $1,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications are available on the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) website. In addition to the completed application, students must submit an official transcript of courses completed; a brief letter of recommendation from a Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) member or an individual associated with public relations or higher education; a typed, double-spaced essay (no more than three pages in length) on the topic listed on the application; and a statement of financial status. All applications and supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
