Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 47 awards were offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be an international student planning to study in the U.S. Women holding dual citizenship in the U.S. and another country are not eligible.
  2. Must be a full-time student.
  3. Must be a female.
  4. Must have completed an academic degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university at the time of application.

Description: This fellowship is offered to female international graduate students who have completed the required coursework for a bachelor's degree.

Additional Information: The International Fellowship program has been in existence since 1917. The program provides support for women pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the United States who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Preference is given to women who show prior commitment to the advancement of women and girls through civic, community, or professional work. Please note that the following are not eligible to apply for Foundation awards: previous International Fellowship recipients; members of AAUW; AAUW Educational Foundation, Legal Advocacy Fund, and Association boards, committees, panels, task forces, staff, members, and current interns. The applicant must intend to return to her home country after completing her graduate program to pursue a professional career.

Award Amount: Three award levels are available based upon the applicant's degree program. Master's/professional fellowships carry a stipend of $18,000 for the fellowship year; doctoral fellowships carry a stipend of $20,000 for the fellowship year; and post-doctoral fellowships carry a stipend of $30,000 for the fellowship year. All awards are offered on an annual basis and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $22,667.

Applications are available at the American Association of University Women Educational Foundation (AAUW) website after Aug. 1. In addition to the completed application, the student must also submit: three letters of recommendation from advisers, colleagues, or others well acquainted with her work; official copy of her transcript; a current C.V. or resume; narratives based on the topics listed on the application; a proposed budget; proof of bachelor's or doctorate degree; official report of TOEFL test scores; and a $30 filing fee paid through PayPal. The applicant must be proficient in English, and must submit a recent score (no older than October 2013) on the International TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) to the foundation. The applicant must score a 550 or higher for paper-based tests; 213 or higher for computer-based tests; or 79 or higher for internet-based tests. All application materials are due by 11:59 p.m. CST on the deadline date.
