In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  4. Must be an undergraduate or graduate student.
  5. Must be a full-time student.
  6. Must be majoring in one of the following college disciplines: computer science, computer engineering, or management information systems. Other majors will be considered if it is evident that the applicant demonstrates a strong academic course of study that includes a high volume of computer science-related courses and/or computer science-related research.
  7. Must be a member of an American Indian tribe, Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian or otherwise considered to be an American Indian by the tribe with which affiliation is claimed; or is at least 1/4 American Indian blood; or is at least 1/4 Alaskan Native; or considered to be an Alaskan Native by an Alaskan Native group to which affiliation is claimed.
  8. Must be a current member of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES).

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who are American Indians, Alaska Natives, or Native Hawaiians, and members of AISES. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and major in computer science, computer engineering, or management information systems.

Additional Information: Notification of scholarship awards will be made in May and June. Scholarship award notifications are done through email. Therefore, it is very important that the applicant inform AISES of any changes to his/her email address.

Award Amount: Scholarships are awarded in the amount of $5,000. Awards are provided on a one time basis and are not renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available on the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) website. Applicants must be AISES members to apply. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: official transcripts (must reflect fall 2013 final grades); two letters of recommendation; a resume; proof of tribal enrollment or a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB); and a personal essay of no more than 1,000 words responding to the questions listed in the application. Please note: The student must submit his/her resume online through AISES netServices. Details on how to submit the resume are available online from the AISES website . The student must be a current AISES member to submit his/her resume; his/her member ID and password are required to log into AISES netServices. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted online no later than the deadline date.
