Number of Awards & Eligibility: Nine awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Hawaii.
  3. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  4. Must plan to attend an accreditedfour-year college or university as a full-time student (12 credits per semester for undergraduate; 9 credits per semester for graduate).
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be of Hawaiian ancestry.
  7. Must be a college junior, senior, or graduate student at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for college juniors, seniors, and graduate students who are residents of Hawaii and are of native Hawaiian descent. Students must have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

Additional Information: This scholarship was created by the family of Blossom Kalama Evans with donations from the Big Island Girls Golf Club. Blossom Kalama Evans was a long-time resident of Hilo and a leading woman golfer on the Big Island where she formed the Big Island Hawaiian Girls Golf Club. She was devoted to assisting the people of Hawai'i. All applicants for this award must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: Approximately $1,166 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,166.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the Hawai'i Community Foundation's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed on the website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. For this scholarship, the student must include in his/her personal statement how his/her knowledge will be used to serve the needs of the native Hawaiian community. A student will not be able to submit his/her application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application. The application must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST on the deadline date.
