Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding and the number of qualified applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a female.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must be a full-time student.
  6. Must be recently or currently enrolled at an accredited Southern California community college at the time of application and demonstrate an ability and intent to earn a bachelor's or advanced degree.
  7. Must have completed 12 units or more of academic work within the previous two semesters that are transferrable to the California college or university systems.

Description: This award is available for female students attending a Southern California community college who have completed two or more full-time semesters with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Student must have identified a possible educational focus and demonstrate an ability and intent to earn a full-time bachelor's degree.

Additional Information: This scholarship program provides monthly stipends for women with high academic ability and significant financial need. The applicant must have identified a possible educational focus and obtained two written recommendations, at least one of which is from an instructor in that field. Recipients will be notified of selections in the summer.

Award Amount: Awards will generally range up to $5,000 annually, depending on the level of financial need, cost of tuition, available funding and any other special circumstances. Award amount will be determined at the discretion of the scholarship review committee. Scholarships may be renewed for an additional year based on continued financial need, maintenance of a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and progress towards a bachelor's or advanced degree.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Applications are available from the Orange County Community Foundation website and must be completed online. Each applicant must create an account using his/her username, chosen password, name and email address. The applicant will be matched with corresponding awards based on his/her responses within the application. In addition to the completed application, the student must upload his/her most recent official transcript; his/her expected family contribution (obtained from the Student Aid Report received after filing the FAFSA); information regarding his/her or his/her parents' most recent income tax return; an essay of no more than 600 words addressing the topic listed; an optional special circumstances essay of no more than 600 words; and contact information for two references. Upon submission of the student's application, each reference will receive an email with instructions on how to submit their letters of recommendation. Students must file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on the deadline date.
