Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to twenty awards will be provided annually, including renewals.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll at an accredited four-year college or university.
  3. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must reside in or plan to attend college in San Mateo County or Santa Clara County in California.
  5. Must be female.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  7. Must be a resident of California.
  8. Must be a high school senior or working toward a first college degree at the time of application.

Description: The Marie A. Calderilla Scholarship is available for women who are residents of San Mateo County or Santa Clara County in California. Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship and a commitment to furthering their education.

Additional Information: A caring physician and loving mother, Dr. Mary Finegold was an inspiration to all who knew her. She enjoyed tennis, literature, language, games and spending time with her family. This scholarship was established in her honor. Special consideration will be given to girls who have demonstrated a 'pioneering' spirit in that they have not been constrained by stereotypical female roles. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, renewable for up to three additional years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $100,000.

Applications are available on the Silicon Valley Community Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two signed and dated letters of recommendation sealed in their own envelopes (the letters must be from the people listed on the application); an official transcript of grades; a signed and dated personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application; evidence of financial need as described on the application; and proof of U.S. citizenship (photocopy of birth certificate, passport or naturalization papers). The complete application packet must be submitted online at the Silicon Valley Community Foundation by 5 p.m. PST on the deadline.
