Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In the 2012-2013 academic year, there were 85 awards given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Wisconsin.
  3. Must be enrolled in a program leading to teaching licensure.
  4. Must be a current college junior, senior or graduate student.
  5. Must be a minority student. For purposes of this award, a minority student is defined as a student who is either an African American; American Indian; Hispanic; or Southeast Asian from Laos, Cambodia or Vietnam admitted to the United States after Dec. 31, 1975.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  7. Must be enrolled on a half-time basis or greater.
  8. Must be enrolled at an eligible independent or University of Wisconsin institution.
  9. Must be a U.S resident or eligible non-citizen.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Wisconsin resident undergraduate and graduate students who are attending a Wisconsin college or university which offers teaching degrees. The student must be a minority, be enrolled in a program leading to teaching licensure, and have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Application requirements for the Wisconsin Minority Teacher Loan are:

Additional Information: The Minority Teacher Loan Program provides loans to Wisconsin resident, minority, undergraduate juniors or seniors or graduate students who are enrolled at least half-time in programs leading to teacher licensure at an independent or University of Wisconsin Institution. Recipients must agree to teach in a Wisconsin school district in which minority students constitute at least 29 percent of total enrollment or in a school district participating in the inter-district pupil transfer program. For each year the student teaches in an eligible school district, 25 percent of the loan is forgiven. If the student does not teach in an eligible district, the loan must be repaid at an interest rate of 5 percent.

Award Amount: Awards are for forgivable loans of up to $2,500 annually, renewable for up to an overall maximum of $5,000.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,217.
