Number of Awards & Eligibility: The Federal Chaplaincy Scholarships vary in value based on funds available and the number of students awarded scholarships each year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be attending an ELCA seminary on what their seminary considers a full-time basis and must be preparing for ministry as a military, Veterans Administration (VA) or federal prison chaplain.
  2. Must be enrolling or enrolled as a Master of Divinity student at an ELCA seminary.
  3. Must be pursuing a place on the ELCA roster of Ministers of Word and Sacrament (pastors).
  4. Must be considered by their synod to be in good standing in the ELCA candidacy process.
  5. Must not be on internship during the upcoming year.
  6. Must be appointed as a chaplain candidate and a commissioned officer.(If military applicants)
  7. Must have completed one unit of CPE.(If VA or prison chaplaincy applicants)
