Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to 500 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must plan to major in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Must plan to enroll full-time in an accredited four-year college or university.
  4. This award is for U.S. and international students.
  5. Must reside in the United States, China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, or Thailand.
  6. Must be a member of an under-represented ethnicity or gender.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The Western Digital Scholarship Program is available for underprivileged and under-represented students who are majoring in STEM as well as the children and legal dependents of Western Digital Employees. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the Western Digital Scholarship Program are:

  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Application form
  • Recommendation letter
  • Proof of citizenship
  • Statement of financial need
Additional Information: The Western Digital Scholarship Program was established in 2018 to help provide funding for the next generation of STEM leaders. The first component of the scholarship program is focused on providing aid to current STEM students from underprivileged or under-represented backgrounds in the following countries: United States, China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand. Applicants for these "Western Digital Scholarships for STEM" must be majoring in computer science (B.S. programs only), engineering, mathematics or science (not including agricultural sciences, health and other life sciences). The second component of the program provides scholarships to children and legal dependents of current Western Digital employees who are at level 109 or below. Applicants may be majoring in any subject but must demonstrate unmet financial need.

Award Amount: Up to $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available on the Silicon Valley Community Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation (the letters must be from the people listed on the application); an official transcript of grades; a personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application; evidence of financial need as described on the application; and proof of U.S. citizenship (photocopy of birth certificate, passport or naturalization papers). The complete application packet must be completed online by the deadline date.
