Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually based on the number of qualified applicants and available funding. In previous academic years, 20 new awards were provided.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must be a legal resident of Delaware.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher.
  5. Must rank in upper half of graduating class if a high school senior.
  6. Must have an SAT score of 1570 or higher (critical reading, math, and writing sections) if a high school senior.
  7. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program leading to teacher certification in a critical need area as defined by the Deleware Department of Education. First preference will be given to students who intend to teach middle and high school math and science. Second preference is given to students who intend to teach special education in a content area.
  8. Must attend a public Delaware college or university.
  9. Must be an incoming or current undergraduate or graduate student.
  10. Must enroll full time.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is a loan forgiveness program for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who plan to attend public Delaware colleges and intend to teach in a critical need area in a Delaware public school. All students must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher; high school seniors must also have a combined SAT score of 1570 or higher and rank in the top 50 percent of their class.

Application requirements for the Delaware Teacher Corps Incentive Program are:

Additional Information: The loan will be forgiven at a rate of one year of teaching in a Delaware public school for one year of loan.

Award Amount: The award is in the form of a forgivable loan and cannot exceed the cost of tuition. Awards may be prorated for students enrolled part time. The award is renewable for up to three additional years if the student maintains a grade point average of 2.75 or higher.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,348.

Applications are available at the Delaware Higher Education Office (DHEO) website. Most DHEO programs will require the student to submit additional documents including an unofficial transcript, SAT scores, and updated college enrollment information by the scholarship deadline. Students should follow the instructions in the Common Merit Application carefully. The Common Merit Application must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on the deadline date.
