Award Amount

The total value of this award is $6,000 paid out in equal installments annually. If the student receives this award he/she is guaranteed the funding for the full five years by maintaining a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. This award is non-renewable.

Additional Information

The Horatio Alger Ak-Sar-Ben Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students in the state of Nebraska and western Iowa who have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity and who aspire to pursue higher education. The Ak-Sar-Ben Scholarship Program is funded through the generosity of the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Foundation. The applicant must have a strong commitment to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution. The student may begin his/her studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution. The applicant must also plan to enter college no later than the fall following high school graduation. Each applicant must demonstrate involvement in co-curricular and community activities. The applicant must be a resident of Nebraska or western Iowa in the counties of Adair, Adams, Audubon, Buena Vista, Calhoun, Carroll, Cass, Cherokee, Clay, Crawford, Dickinson, Fremont, Greene, Guthrie, Harrison, Ida, Lyon, Mills, Monona, Montgomery, O'Brien, Osceola, Page, Pottawattamie, Plymouth, Ringold, Sac, Shelby, Sioux, Taylor, Union, or Woodbury.
