Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  2. Must demonstrate a personal connection to American Indian culture and traditions, as well as evidence of personal commitment to celebrating diversity and to bridging differences between disparate groups.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be a graduating high school senior about to enter college.
  5. Must be planning to attend the College of William and Mary.

Description: This award is for U.S. high school seniors who will be attending the College of William and Mary. Applicants must have a personal connection to American Indian culture and traditions.

Application requirements for the Anne Trevarthen Memorial are:

Additional Information: This one-time scholarship will be presented each April to a high-school senior who will be attending the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Eligible applicants must demonstrate a personal connection to American Indian culture and traditions, as well as evidence of personal commitment to celebrating diversity and to bridging differences between disparate groups. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate knowledge of and/or involvement with one of Virginia’s state-recognized Tribes. The amount of the scholarship is based on the annual return of the endowment, and may vary year to year.

Award Amount: $1,000, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications and information about this award are available at the Daughters of the American Revolution website at the link provided. Students are not required to obtain sponsorship by a local or state DAR chapter; however, a chapter or state chairman may work with the applicant to put the information together to send to the DAR Scholarship Committee. To be considered for this award, students must submit the following items: the application form; the financial information form; a typed statement of up to 1,000 words describing the applicant's career goals; original high school and/or college transcripts; at least two but no more than four letters of recommendation detailing the applicant's ability, work ethic, character, and/or volunteer activities; a listing of extracurricular activities, awards, and academic honors; and proof of citizenship such as a passport, naturalization papers, or birth certificate. Any photos of the applicant included in citizenship documentation must be covered, and any other photo submissions will be automatic grounds for disqualification. Applications and supporting documents must be submitted online no later than the deadline date. Incorrect applications or applications mailed to the incorrect address are discarded. No records are returned.
