The South Carolina Department of Education sponsors the Archibald Rutledge Scholarship Program every year. This program offers 12th grade students the opportunity to compete for scholarships in drama, creative writing, music, visual arts, and dance. The purpose of the competition is to encourage and recognize academic and artistic excellence. A panel of professionals in each of the five arts areas will select a recipient in each of the disciplines. There can be only a certain number of entries per school, per discipline. This number is determined by student enrollment. Schools with an enrollment of 1 to 500 may submit 1 entry per discipline. Schools with an enrollment of 501 to 1,500 may submit 2 entries per discipline. Schools with an enrollment of 1,501 or above may submit 3 entries per discipline. Award winners will be announced in May.
