Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior at time of application.
  3. Must plan to graduate from Carver Vocational-Technical High School.
  4. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must be a female.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be a resident of Maryland.

Description: This award is available to seniors at the Carver Vocational-Technical High School in Baltimore, Maryland. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: Britney C. Bownes graduated from Carver Vocational-Technical High School in 2003. She understood the importance of a quality education and aspired to become a teacher. After a lengthy battle with cancer, she passed in 2005. Britney epitomized strength, courage and perseverance. In spite of her illness, she graduated from Carver with a certificate in childcare and completed one year of college at BCCC. This scholarship has been established to give back to the Carver community to support a student who possesses the same qualities and love for education as Britney. The applicant must be planning to attend a four-year college beginning with the fall semester.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Information about and applications for the award are available at the online portal of the CollegeBound Foundation. To access the application for these awards, the student must first register an online account. In addition to completing the CollegeBound Foundation Competitive Scholarship Application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation; a copy of his/her college acceptance letter(s); a typed essay addressing the topic listed on the application; and a copy of his/her recent high school transcript, including the first semester of the senior year. All application materials must be received online by the deadline.
