Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards changes every year. Last year, there were 314 awards distributed.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  2. Must exhibit leadership ability and participate in community service activities.
  3. Must plan to attend school full-time.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must be an undergraduate or graduate student.

Description: This award is for U.S. undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students who are or will be attending an accredited college or university full-time. Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA.

Additional Information: The CBC Spouses Educational Scholarship is a national program that awards scholarships to academically talented and highly motivated students who intend to pursue full-time undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degrees. The Educational Scholarship Fund was established in 1988 and has experienced substantial growth. Recipients for this program are selected through volunteers in the district offices of the members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). CBC Members work through local scholarship committees to award money to academically talented and highly motivated students. Preference will be given to CBC member constituent.

Award Amount: The amount of each awards varies. Awards generally range from $500-$3000, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,750.

The online application is available on the Congressional Black Caucus Foundations (CBC) website. During the online application process, the applicant must upload and/or complete the following forms: A personal statement essay from the student (500-1,000 words) that addresses all four (4) of the topics listed on the application in one cohesive essay; Two (2) letters of recommendation (Email addresses will be requested of each recommender for electronic submission of the letter. Hard copy letters will not be accepted.); A copy of the detailed Federal Student Aid Report (SAR); A one-page resume listing extracurricular activities, honors, employment, community service and special skills; A recent photograph suitable for publication. The following two documents are to be mailed to the organization and received before the deadline date: Graduating high school seniors must provide proof of enrollment (such as an acceptance letter) into an institution of study for the next fall semester as well as official sealed transcripts from all institutions attended. Freshmen level students must also submit high school transcripts. All online applications and supporting documents must be completed and received by the deadline date. Late applications and materials will not be accepted.
