Number of Awards & Eligibility: 30 to 40 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a female.
  3. Must be a Chicana-Latina student.
  4. Must be a full-time student as defined by her institution if an undergraduate student. Please note: If the student's institution considers her to be full time, but she is not enrolled in 12 or more units, she must explain the reason she is considered full time in the comments section of the scholarship application.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher if an undergraduate student and 3.0 or higher if a graduate student.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must have completed a minimum of 12 college credits after high school graduation OR been accepted into graduate/professional school or be a currently enrolled graduate/professional student completing courses/thesis/dissertation.
  8. Must have been a resident for a minimum of two years of and be enrolled in an accredited college/university/community college in one of the following Northern California counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma, or Yolo.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for female students in Northern California who are of Chicana/Latina heritage. Applicant must have completed 12 or more credit hours as an undergraduate or be accepted or enrolled in a graduate program, and must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher (3.0 or higher if a graduate student) at the time of application.

Application requirements for the Chicana/Latina Foundation Scholarship are:

  • Resume/CV (if grad. student)
  • Interview (semi-finalists only)
Additional Information: Semi-finalists will be interviewed in San Francisco at the end of May. Students must participate in the interview to be considered for a scholarship. All scholarship recipients are expected to participate in the Chicana/Latina Foundation Leadership Institute. Session 1 of the Institute will be held in August and session 2 will be held in February. Also, applicants must agree, if awarded a scholarship, to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours by March of the following year in support of the Chicana/Latina Foundation. Please note: Students who received a Chicana/Latina Foundation scholarship within the past four years are not eligible to apply for a scholarship. Students who were selected as semi-finalists but not awarded a scholarship may reapply.

Award Amount: $1,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications are available on the Chicana/Latina Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, the student must include the following: two typed essays of 300 to 600 words each on the topics listed on the application; college transcripts (official preferred); two letters of recommendation with completed forms B and C of the application, at least one of which must be from an instructor; and a resume or curriculum vitae, if a graduate student. The completed application packet must be postmarked or emailed using the addresses provided by the deadline date. Letters of recommendation may be sent separately by recommenders, but must be postmarked by the deadline date.
