Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund

Number of Awards & Eligibility: Six awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Clay County in Arkansas.
  4. Must be the single parent of one or more children under the age of 18.
  5. Must be the head of the household.
  6. Must be a low-income person at or near the poverty level.
  7. Must be pursuing a vocationally-oriented course of study as a full-time or part-time student.
  8. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent to apply for this undergraduate award (students may apply if they are enrolled in college and are in the process of obtaining a GED diploma).
  9. Must be single, legally separated, divorced, or widowed.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Current undergraduate single parents who reside in Clay County, Arkansas are eligible for this award. Students must be the head of household and be living at or near the poverty level.

Application requirements for the Clay County Single Parent Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Acceptance/enrollment verification
Additional Information: The scholarship exists to provide supplemental financial assistance to single parents who are pursuing a course of instruction that will improve their income-earning potential. The student must be the recipient of or be in the process of obtaining a Pell Grant. Applying for a Pell Grant is done by filing a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Students must not have already earned a bachelor's degree.

Award Amount: Up to $500 a semester, non-renewable. The student may reapply each semester. The award can be used for tuition, books, utility bills, car maintenance, childcare, etc.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.
