Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually. The scholarship award must be used at the beginning of the next semester. Otherwise it will be forfeited and given to an alternate.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must pursue a degree in photojournalism.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  4. Must be currently enrolled full time at an accredited four-year college or university.
  5. Must have already graduated from high school and be working toward a degree to apply for this undergraduate award.

This competition, conducted by the NPPF, Kappa Alpha Mu, and the University of Missouri School of Journalism, recognizes outstanding work of students currently working toward a degree. The contest embraces diverse approaches to photojournalism as well as providing a forum for student photographers to gauge their skills against those of their peers. A student may apply for more than one scholarship, but may receive only one NPPF scholarship in a given year.

Award Amount: The NPPF Booster Club provides the $1,000 Col. William Lookadoo Award and the $500 Milton Freier Award. These awards are offered annually and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $750.
