This fund was established by Eleanor Williams Curry, an active civic leader on the peninsula. The award is for young women who are self-motivated and need financial support to re-enter the educational system through a community college, university, or vocational school. The award helps women who have dropped out of school for reasons beyond their control, or have undergone unusual hardships to remain in school. The selection committee considers additional circumstances related to possible ethnic or racial discrimination, physical disability, or the choice of a non-traditional area of study.
