Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  3. Must be accepted into any institution with an aviation degree core program including flight training, management, aerospace education, maintenance technician, airway science, etc.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The General Aviation Manufacturers Association is offering a scholarship to a high school senior that plans on majoring in aviation. The award will be judged on the basis of grade point average, community and school activities, and an aviation essay.

Application requirements for the Edward W. Stimpson Aviation Excellence Award are:

  • Recommendation letters (limit 2)
  • Official Transcript
  • Essay
  • Application form
  • Nomination
Additional Information: The applicants will be evaluated using the following criteria: academic standing (30 percent); extracurricular activities, including service and contributions to school and community (20 percent); and the essay question (50 percent).

Award Amount: $2,000 cash annually, non-renewable. Student will also receive an award and letter from GAMA's President.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available on the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) website. Nominations will be solicited from high schools across the U.S. There is no limit to the number of applications submitted by each school. In addition to the completed nomination application, the student must submit the following: letters of recommendations (from teachers or school administrators; a recent academic transcript; and a 750-word essay (one-page maximum) explaining what aviation means to the student and why he/she chose to pursue a career in aviation. The application and all supporting documents must be submitted to GAMA on or before the deadline date.
