Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, approximately 3,600 awards were disbursed last year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Texas.
  3. Must have been in the care or conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) on the day before their 18th birthday, the day of their graduation from high school or day of receipt of GED, or were in the care or conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services through their 14th birthday and was elibigle for adoption.
  4. Must attend a Texas public college or university.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be a high school junior, senior, or currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program.
  7. Must be enrolled by the student's 25th birthday.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for Texas resident students who have been in the care or conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS). Applicant must be enrolled in or planning to enroll in a public Texas college or university no later than his/her 25th birthday.

Application requirements for the Exemption for Students under Conservatorship of the Dept. of Family and Protective Services are:

Additional Information: Students must have been in the care or conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) on the day before their 18th birthday, the day of their graduation from high school or day of receipt of GED, or were in the care or conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services through their 14th birthday and was elibigle for adoption. The student must also enroll in a public college or university in Texas no later than his/her 25th birthday.

Award Amount: Exemption from the payment of tuition and certain fees at eligible colleges and universities in Texas. Awards are renewable, there are no limitations to how many semesters or years a student may receive this exemption.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,104.
